Biography

Valerio Guadagno was born in Salerno, Italy, in 1972. After graduating in Architecture at Naples University and attending to a master course in Industrial Design at Domus Academy in Milano, he moved to Vicenza where he lives and works. Since then he has been working with different studios, designing powertools, eyeglasses, graphics for cotton bags, displays and p.o.p. materials and directing some TV commercials. In 2002 he won the "Opus Design Award 2002", having his project displayed at Mido 2003 and participated to the exhibitions: "Slightly Domestic" during Milan design week and "The Gift: love, memory, rivalry" c/o Macef Autumn in Milan. In 2003 one of his projects was chosen for ” Sustainable Everyday - scenarios, visions, possible worlds” c/o La Triennale di Milano, while in 2004 he was selected as a finalist for the first edition of "Dieselwal" in Milan and took part in "Coffeepot for Masochists" at Asa Studio Albanese in Vicenza in 2004 and at Artandgallery during Milan design week in 2005. After two solo exhibitions c/o F.A.R.M.4 in Barcelona in 2004, and at LeClan in Campodarsego (PD), he started a series of performances, called " Rabbit Eye Movement " as part of Fuoribiennale 2005 , to be held in different cities in the north of Italy. In 2005 he joined the contest for a “Dieselwall”in Berlin and also this time he was selected as a finalist.
After participating in “Energ_etica” at Casa dell’Energia in Milan in 2007, and in “Red Cross Summer Exhibition”in The Hague  in 2008, he presented the performance called “He-rmes” at Fondazione Vignato in Vicenza; while in 2009 he took part in “Emersioni - Giovani artisti visivi sull’acqua” at Centro Informagiovani in Vicenza and created a new performance, “Pollen-Action”, in Piazza San Marco a Venezia. The following year he took part in the first edition on “Entrata d’Emergenza” in Vicenza and opened “Il Bello in Maschera”, his third solo exhibition at the Museum Manuel Cargaleiro in Vietri sul Mare. Since 2009 he has been working with Esperimentocinema, as a set designer and art director for the short movies “Libido”, winner of the viewers choice award of the first Red 4k International Challenge in Los Angeles, and “The Message”, selected  for Cannes Film Festival – Short corner 2010, and for the full length movie “Ritual”, presented at Venice Film Festival  2011. In 2010 he worked as a set and costume designer in the official videoclip for the song ““La Polizia S’Incazza” by Calibro35 and the following year he directed “Minor Offender” an animated short movie inspired by the lyrics of Michèle Raffaele’s song with the same title.
